The Scarecrow Festival

The purpose of the festival is to bring the local communities together. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet up with each other, make new friends, swap ideas and just laugh. It is amazing how creative everyone is – from young to old, families, our local schools, businesses, we all embrace this challenge! It is great fun for those who participate in the creation of the scarecrows and for those who just admire them!

The outcome is a great community spirit that we share with the many visitors who come especially to the valley to enjoy this event. We love to see the astonishment, puzzlement and joy of those visitors who arrive in the valley with no prior knowledge of what they’re about to see!





Win A Great Prize!
Vote for your favourite scarecrow in the People’s Choice Award - all it takes is a gold coin donation, fill in a voting form at a number of prominent locations throughout the Wollombi Valley, and be in with a chance to win a two-night getaway in the Hunter Valley!! All funds raised through voting will be donated to the Hunter Mobile Pre-school, which visits Wollombi every Wednesday and Thursday during the school term.

The festival runs from Saturday 20th March to Saturday 17th April 2010.
There are always loads of things going on in the Wollombi Valley!

• Laguna Markets - Sunday 21st March. Why not visit the Laguna Markets from 9.30am to 1pm, where you will find local produce: veggies, free range eggs, fruit, herbs, plants, flowers, tubestock, olives, olive oil, preserves, lavender products, as well as: hand spun wool / beanies / scarves, jewellery, vintage linen, bric-a-brac, secondhand books, etc ...
• Inside Art - Another exciting exhibition of Paintings Drawings and Craft Work, by the inmates of Cessnock Correctional Centre opens at the Wollombi Cultural Centre on Easter Friday 2nd April, at 5pm, with drinks and nibblies. Come, see and enjoy the variety, originality and beauty of this Art from the Inside. Open over the Easter Long Weekend, and continuing until Sunday 18th April (2 weekends only) from 11am to 4pm.
• Wollombi Markets - Monday 5th April. The famous markets are on from 8am to 1pm. With over 100 stalls, incuding local produce and crafts, plants, clothes and bric-a-brac, there is something for everyone.
• Wollombi Cattle Sales - Saturday 10th April. Witness local identity and auctioneer Harold Sternbeck conduct a sale of local cattle in the Wollombi saleyards. If you have never been to a cattle sale, this is an event not to be missed!
